A software engineer from Sussex has earned her place as a finalist in a national awards ceremony. The finalists of the 2024 Black British Business Awards have been announced ahead of the gala in October. Maureen Biney, a Software Engineer in Brighton, has been shortlisted for an award.
Established in 2014, the BBBAwards celebrate the achievements of Black professionals and entrepreneurs in the UK. It has been endorsed by four Prime Ministers, including Sir Keir Starmer, as well as the Mayor of London and global business leaders. She has made notable contributions at American Express, significantly optimising the Bank Identification Number (BIN) range expansion process by automating and modernising it, thereby reducing timelines and costs by about 50 per cent. She stands in good company as she goes up against Hewan Wole, Global Marketing Director at ViiV Healthcare, and Tolu Falade, a Production Team Leader at BP. Outside her corporate role, Maureen is involved in public speaking and mentoring.
She has addressed nearly 10,000 people on topics like mobilising hybrid workforces and using technology. The theme of the 2024 BBBAwards is #NEXT. #NEXT marks a shift in the Black community and business, acknowledging talent that is set to become the next genera.
