Monday, August 26, 2024 American Airlines, based in Fort Worth, Texas, is set to temporarily upgrade its Miami to Cancun service by introducing the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft on select flights. This change, planned for the end of the year, aims to accommodate the increased travel demand during the busy holiday season. Typically, American Airlines operates this popular leisure route using various narrowbody aircraft, offering multiple daily flights.

However, the introduction of the widebody Boeing 777-200ER, along with additional flight frequencies, will significantly boost the route’s capacity by more than 10,000 seats, providing travelers with greater flexibility and comfort. Expanded Flight Schedule As reported by independent aviation blog Ishrion Aviation, American Airlines will begin using the 777-200ER between its hub at Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cancun International Airport (CUN) starting December 19, 2024. The widebody aircraft will be scheduled for one daily flight in each direction, continuing through January 6, 2025.

The outbound flight, AA2494, is set to depart Miami at around 08:30, arriving in Cancun at approximately 10:30. The return flight, AA1469, will depart from Cancun at 11:40 and arrive back in Miami just after 13:30. This enhanced schedule offers a convenient and efficient travel option for passengers, ideal for those looking to enjoy the holiday season in the warm, tropical climate of Cancun.
