Amanda Holden was almost forced to pull out of Britain’s Got Talent amid her daughter’s terrifying mystery illness. The 53-year-old TV judge has opened up about the “terrifying” moment her 18-year-old daughter, Lexi, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening E.coli .

The A-level student contracted the rare bacterial infection in May - before the current outbreak hit the headline s - meaning that when she initially fell ill, the cause of her sickness was unknown. While Lexi’s condition was worsening, Amanda was in the midst of filming BGT’s live shows. The mother-of-two has now revealed what she was going through behind the scenes and that she seriously considered pulling out of the show.

There, the youngster was immediately placed on a drip and her worried parents stayed by her bedside for five days. Describing the horrific ordeal - which was going on during BGT’s finals week - to The Sun, Amanda recalled how she would spend “all day” in the hospital, before her husband, Chris Hughes would take over, allowing her to rush to the TV studio.
