The Africa Film Academy, producers of the Africa Movie Award Academy (AMAA) have revealed the nominations for its upcoming 20th edition of the awards. The nomination unveiling was revealed to the press in Lagos on Wednesday, October 2, with members of the jury in attendance as well as the AFA board represented by Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, the Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Mr Tony Anih and AMAA gala night producer, Mr Kingsley James.
Leading the pack is ‘The Weekend’ with 16 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and Achievement in Cinematography. Close behind is South Africa’s ‘The Queenstown Kings’ with 15 nominations, contending for Best Film, Best Director, and Cinematography, followed by ‘This is Lagos’, ‘Under The Hanging Tree’ and ‘Out of Breath’with 9 nominations each. Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun secured seven nominations.
The 20th edition of AMAA, in partnership with Lagos State Government, also revealed this year’s theme as ‘Celebrating African Creativity’. The CEO of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe revealed the lineup of activities for the 2024 edition of the film and movie awards ceremony saying the 2024 AMAA is significant because it’s the 20th edition. He noted that some of the activities scheduled for the 20th edition of AMAA include the launch of the AMAA Coffee Book, AMAA Africa Night of Legends, AMAA meets Nollywood, AMAA Africa Fashion Show and Exhibition and the AMAA Gala Night.
