A stretch of the A14 will be closed for two months at the end of summer. Here is all you need to know about the planned closure near Ipswich. The closure will be in place along the major route between junction 52 near Claydon and junction 55 for the Copdock Interchange.

Around five miles of the highway in both directions will be affected by the closure but the carriageways will not be closed simultaneously. National Highways said the A14 will be closed for two months from Tuesday, August 27 until mid October. The highway is expected to be closed from 8pm and 6pm but will be weather permitting.

A spokesman for National Highways said the roadworks will "minimise the need for more extensive repairs in the future. The official diversion route is roughly 10 miles long and will take traffic through the village of Sproughton.

Traffic heading eastbound will exit and junction 52, travel along the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton, then head along the A1071 and A1214 to rejoin the A14 at the Copdock Interchange. The westbound diversion will be the same in reverse..
