Alex Jones has opened up about the challenging times her family faced after her husband Charlie Thompson went through a difficult period with his mental health. The One Show host, 47, who shares three children with her insurance broker husband , previously revealed that he had experienced a "really bad period" and in July 2023 explained that he was in a "much better place now". Her husband Charlie had gone through a difficult time after becoming ill with Lyme Disease and viral meningitis.

And now, BBC star Alex has opened up more about the emotional toll it took on her and spoke to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast about how she felt helpless watching her partner go through what he did. While Alex maintained respect for Charlie's privacy by not delving too deeply into his mental health journey, she did confide in Fearne and explained: "Everybody has periods where you just don't feel great. I mean going back to my late 20s - woah.

Looking back now, that was a mess. And I've talked before, my husband has suffered in the past." Fearne, empathising with Alex's situation, responded: "It's your husband's story, we don't need to get into your husband, but as you just touched on, he had a bad patch of mental health.

It's hard as a partner that you can't fix them. That's quite a frustrating feeling. How did you navigate that?," reports the Mirror .

In response, Alex added: "You're right. I went quite 1980s and was like - right, come on. That was the way I had been brought up.
