Alan Titchmarsh has been a popular face on TV screens for almost four decades. (Image: ITV) Alan Titchmarsh has opened up about the "difficult" decision he faces when spending private time with his family. Despite being a public figure, the iconic gardener values his privacy and views fame as a "by-product" of his work.

Speaking on James O'Brien's Full Disclosure podcast in July 2023, he shared that he often notices people "hovering about" when he is with his wife Alison and their two adult daughters, Polly and Camilla. The 75-year-old TV personality can "instantly" tell when people want to approach him, usually for a quick greeting or a selfie. While he doesn't mind being recognised, he prefers to keep his family life private.

This has led to one showbiz friend admitting they "don't know anything" about his personal lifen Alan said: "Although I'm happy being recognised, I never have a problem with it, I don't crave it. Fame is a by-product of what I do, not the reason why I do it. And I'm a private person as well as a public face.
