History was made at Cairns Airport today with the arrival of the first AirAsia flight. The inaugural service touched down in Cairns around 6 a.

m., took on local passengers, and then departed for Bali (Denpasar) shortly after 7 a.m.

The new route will operate three times a week, adding over 28,000 seats to the Cairns market in its first year. Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer Richard Barker said the inaugural flight was a significant milestone for the wider Tropical North Queensland region. “AirAsia is one of the world’s most recognisable airline brands and is renowned in the industry as Asia’s first low cost, low fare carrier,” he said .
