Ahmedabad/Pune: A police team from the Bopal area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old fruit trader in Pune city for allegedly forcing a 21-year-old woman from Shela in Gujarat to inflict cuts on her arms during video calls . The man also allegedly extorted Rs90,000 from the victim during their long-distance relationship spanning a year. Ahmedabad rural superintendent of police Omprakash Jat said that accused Sahil Satarkar was arrested for allegedly torturing the woman.
Another senior police officer said the duo came to know each other through a common friend. "She was studying in Pune and her classmate was Satarkar's friend. Satarkar had seen the woman on his friend's Facebook list.
The common friend shared her number, after which he initiated chats with her," said the officer. Later, the duo followed each other on various social media platforms and met during a trekking camp in Goa in Dec 2023. "Satarkar allegedly filmed her during their intimate moments.
During a video call, he pressured her to disrobe and recorded it. He allegedly used these videos to force her to meet him whenever he wished," the officer said. According to the FIR filed with the Bopal police on Sept 25, Satarkar also allegedly forced her to inflict cuts on her wrists and smoke cigarettes during video calls and disrobe whenever asked.
He had allegedly extorted Rs 90,000 from her over the past few months. The woman's family approached the Bopal police when they came to know about the harassmen.
