In honour of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, Malaysian artiste Ah Niu and Chinese singer Huang Ying have released a music video that seamlessly blends our popular folk song Rasa Sayang with the Chinese folk tune Mo Li Hua (Jasmine Flower). The two-and-a-half minutes music video stands as a testament to the rich cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Malaysia. It was shot in and around iconic sites in Melaka, showcasing the city’s rich heritage and scenic beauty.
Ah Niu – whose real name is Tan Kheng Seong – is known for his catchy Malaysian folk tunes while Huang Ying is a celebrated artiste in her country for her contribution to traditional Chinese music. The video features Ah Niu and Huang Ying performing together with a group of dancers wearing vibrant, traditional outfits. Netizens took to social media platform, Xiaohongshu to shower praises of the collaboration, stating that the video has “a very strong national culture”, and that the mash-up of Malaysian and Chinese folk songs was “nice to listen to".
Fans of the singers also appreciated the cultural beauty highlighted in the video stating that the “Nyonya kebaya and cheongsam are both beautiful”. The timely release of the music video marks half a century of Sino-Malaysian diplomatic relations, resulting in ongoing political and economic cooperation.
