MUMBAI: India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar till Wednesday, indicating rain at isolated places. Experts said the city may see significant rain activity for September till Sept 27, Friday, considering a prolonged dry spell . IMD in its forecast for Sept 24 specifically for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar stated that thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds at isolated places are very likely.

For Sept 25, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places are very likely. Sept 26 is also expected to see moderate rain activity. On Monday, light rain was recorded in parts of the city, with some parts seeing a sudden downpour for a brief period.

Due to the dry spell, day and night temperatures have been above normal. Stock in lakes supplying water to Mumbai on Monday were 14.17 lakh million litres or almost 97.
