Adele Roberts isn't taking life for granted after discovering she was cancer free and made a promise to herself after finding out the news. The Radio 1 DJ was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in October 2021 and was told that there were "no guarantees" that she would survive. Thankfully, a year later after intense treatment and her life-saving stoma bag , Adele was declared cancer-free.
"Hearing the phrase ‘You’re cancer free' is my most favourite sentence I’ve ever heard," Adele told the Mirror . "It was so special. I think what I didn’t realise is when you hear those words it more means that there’s no detectable cancer so for the next five years or so I’m going to be monitored closely.
But every time you hear you’re cancer free, I’ll take it, please!" But Adele didn't want to waste her chance at living and made a promise to herself after hearing the news. "When I first got my first all clear I thought, ‘Right, you’ve got a second chance at life. Live life to the full and spend your time giving back to the people that helped you,'" she said.
"And that’s exactly what I intend to do." Speaking on the red carpet at the JustGiving Awards, Adele was helping to choose who should win among a number of incredible nominees raising money for charity. Among the winners was Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey, who raised over £38,000 in honour of his friend who died from Motor Neurone Disease.
