Adele Lim has been hired as director of the third installment of the famed “The Princess Diaries” franchise. Lim penned Disney’s 2021 animated film “Raya and the Last Dragon,” the rom-com global sensation “Crazy Rich Asians,” and directed the raunchy female Asian American comedy “Joy Ride”. This will mark her second directorial effort.

Flora Greeson is writing the screenplay for the new installment while Debra Martin Chase is producing. The series launched in 2001, catapulting its star Anne Hathaway into a box office name. It was followed by a sequel in 2004 which was a breakthrough role for her co-star Chris Pine.

The first film followed Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis, who learns she’s the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. She takes her friends Lilly and Michael Moscovitz along for the ride as she tries to navigate through her unexpected new position. Julie Andrews co-starred.

The late Garry Marshall helmed the previous films which have grossed around $300 million worldwide combined. Source:.
