Monday, September 9, 2024 Adelaide Airport has launched a significant upgrade to its security screening process, aiming to make travel smoother and more efficient for passengers. This major overhaul, set for completion by late 2025, includes the installation of advanced body scanners and 3D x-ray bag scanners across all security lanes. Once fully implemented, travelers will no longer need to remove laptops, tablets, or aerosols from their carry-on luggage—a common frustration at airport security checks.

Currently, a mix of old and new screening technologies has caused confusion among passengers. Dermot O’Neill, Executive General Manager of People, Culture, and Customer at Adelaide Airport, acknowledged the inconsistency and inefficiencies in the current system. “Rolling out body scanners and 3D x-ray scanners will streamline the experience for travelers and enhance our security teams’ efficiency,” O’Neill stated.

This new technology, which uses computed tomography (CT), allows for a clearer and more accurate view of items, improving both speed and safety in the screening process. The airport also plans to implement an automated tray return system to further reduce manual handling and speed up the process. Currently, Adelaide Airport operates two body scanners and one 3D x-ray scanner at its central checkpoint, while other lanes still use older technologies.

With the completion of this upgrade, all security lanes will be standardized to provide consistent and effic.
