Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is expected to initiate action against eateries which have violated fire safety norms and failed to conduct structural audits of their establishments. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) chief Shekhar Singh said that earlier, the civic body had issued notices to 100 erring establishments, which were directed to comply with the norms before Aug end. Singh said civic officials would start inspections and action for non-compliance from Monday.

Those who have not complied with fire safety norms or not carried out a structural audit, despite PCMC’s notice, would face action. He said there were around 14 eateries that PCMC and police already initiated a demolition drive against after the state excise department’s survey for violation of various norms. Asked whether remaining erring eateries would face action, Singh said, “There are some establishments which have been there for over 50 years.

A random demolition drive will affect the employment of a large number of people. We have ordered them to do structural and fire safety audits. Those who fail will face action.
