Ireland AM host Alan Hughes has revealed why he was totally thrown when an A-list celebrity behaved like an ‘absolute b***h’. The presenter first met American talk show host Ellen Degeneres back in 2011 after he and his husband Karl Broderick jetted to Los Angeles on their honeymoon On that occasion he said ‘she couldn’t have been nicer’. The pair went to a taping of The Ellen Degeneres Show, which ran from 2003 to 2022, and were brought backstage, even being introduced to her wife Portia.

‘I was saying to Karl, “We’re moving to LA. We’re moving in with Ellen..

. Forget about Ireland AM, we’re moving to LA, Ellen’s our best friend now,” he told Evoke.ie at the launch of Ireland AM’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

‘The producer had said that she would help Karl with his music and everything like that and it was like, ‘Oh my god, this is amazing’ and I thought, ‘Jesus we’re in here, we have it we’re sorted.’ However, Alan had a totally different experience when he crossed paths with Ellen a few years later during a press junket for Finding Dory, the 2016 sequel to Finding Nemo, in London. Alan admitted he was looking forward to reminding Ellen of their previous interaction, but found the 66-year-old to be totally indifferent.
