O n a clear day, when looking out from the rear terrace, you can see miles of rolling Cotswolds countryside. At night you can see the distant lights of Warwick and Coventry and, on November 5 and New Year’s Eve, the sky is ablaze with fireworks. Harriet Gubbins fell in love with the town of Banbury, Oxfordshire, after moving to Adderbury, three miles south, with her husband and three children.

They wanted to stay close by when they decided to move four years ago. They found the Gables, a bungalow in a six-acre plot high on Edge Hill, on the other side of Banbury, with views over the northern parts of the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty and the Vale of Red Horse. “We’re on this ridge with 40 miles of uninterrupted view, 365 degrees around our house,” Gubbins says.

“The reason why the view is so incredible is because it’s like being a drone, you’re looking down on the countryside, you’re not looking across at it.”.
