Prayagraj: As many as 845 houses located in the city’s posh and semi-urban areas were found to be breeding grounds for mosquitoes during the DBC (Domestic Breed Checkers) checking drive in the past one month. District health authorities on Tuesday claimed to have surveyed over 20,600 houses in the past month and found breeding grounds for mosquitoes at 845 places. Out of these places, as many as 528 unused coolers , 40 fridge defrost trays, 85 clay pots, 60 water tanks, 128 unused tyres and containers, and 11 drains having sources of stagnant water and rotten tyres are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The DBC teams have appealed to residents to take preventive measures and ensure that there should be no breeding groundsfor mosquitoes in and around houses. Statistics from the health department here revealed that there were a total of 18 dengue cases detected in the city between January 1 and August 20 this year. District malaria officer (Prayagraj) AK Singh said, “Health department authorities have intensified an awareness campaign in the city, trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna pockets of district, appealing to denizens to drain or fill places, such as potholes, in and around their residences where water collects, stands, and turns into breeding grounds for mosquitoes (dengue larvae).
