Vadodara: One might have frequently heard of burglaries of valuables like jewellery and cash, but in Santrampur taluka of Mahisagar district, burglars stole grains and sugar worth Rs 1.56 lakh from a fair price shop (FPS). The shop, operated by Ishwar Parghi in the Moti Kayar village of Santrampur, was closed on Friday and Saturday when the burglary occurred.

The FPS shop had got fresh stock of grains last week and a part of it was distributed on Thursday. After keeping the shop closed on Friday and Saturday last week, Parghi on Sunday afternoon noticed that the shutter of the shop had been forced open. Parghi called some villagers, and they took stock of the material present in the shop.

It then came to light that 6,761 kg of grains and 83 kg of sugar had been stolen from the shop. The burglars stole 3,416 kg of wheat and 3,050 kg of rice. The remaining stock was of pearl millet (bajra) and toor dal.

Parghi informed the Santrampur police station regarding the incident. An offence of burglary was registered on Monday, and an investigation began.
