Pune: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday targeted deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis over the rise in crime against women but the Mahayuti govt is busy promoting the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme instead of ensuring their safety. In Pune city, Pawar held rallies in Dhankawdi, Wanowrie, and Hadapsar in support of MVA candidates on Thursday. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also participated in one of these rallies.

"In the last two years, 67,381 cases of crime against women were reported in various police stations of the state. It shows that every hour, five cases of crime against women are registered. Recently, the state govt published data about missing women which says 64,000 went missing in Maharashtra.

Of these, 13,000 women went missing from the home minister's Nagpur district," Pawar said in the Hadapsar rally. He added that the rise in crime against women is shameful for the state, but those in govt are not bothered. "Govt is busy promoting the Ladki Bahin scheme.

Voters will have to make sure that they do not vote for those who are not serious about women's safety," the veteran leader added. "Govt is giving Rs 1,500 to women. We do not object.

But, we want the govt to ensure women's safety on priority," Pawar said..
