1 2 3 Pune: Twenty-nine polling booths in Pune district are among 6,000 in the state that have been relocated to ensure accessibility and adequate facilities ahead of the Nov 20 assembly poll, laying the focus on 100% voter slip distribution to avoid any confusion among voters. There are at least 1 lakh polling booths across the state for 9.7 crore voters.

These include 241 auxiliary polling booths that were added to avoid crowding. Election officials said the relocation was proposed owing to infrastructure issues at the previously allotted polling booths. "From inadequate infrastructure to insufficient parking facilities and unavailability of ramps, quite a few reasons necessitated the change in location for polling booths.

There are buildings where five or more polling booths are accommodated. These too are being checked to accommodate some in adjacent buildings," an election official said. Pune district, with the highest number of voters in the state, has taken extra precautions with 8,462 polling booths, moving 29 to newer locations.

These include 27 in the Khadakwasla assembly segment and two in Baramati. Name changes in 19 polling stations in Shirur, 21 in Chinchwad, seven in Hadapsar, five in Wadgaon Sheri and two in Khadakwasla have been listed for the benefit of the voter. All returning officers carried out the exercise, and in the city and rural areas, helpline numbers were issued for the voters to find their polling booths.
