The Daily News will recognize the accomplishments of boys athletes competing in high school sports from our coverage area each week. The efforts may not be the greatest statistically but are notable. We then invite readers to vote for the Supernova, the performance that most stood out to you.

Here are this week’s honorees. Boucek The Winhawks runners punched their ticket to state in convincing fashion Thursday, winning the MSHSL Section 1AA cross-country championship at Faribault’s North Alexander Park by scoring 40 points to beat runner-up Northfield’s 71. Boucek had the team’s best finish, taking second place individually with a time of 16 minutes and 15 seconds, behind Kasson-Mantorville junior David Obst’s 16:00.

6. Three more Winonans cracked the top 10, with senior Leo Lohnes just behind Boucek in third at 16:22.1, sophomore Finn Van Fossen placing seventh at 16:44.

6, and senior Brady Benedict in 10th at 16:50.6. With the third section title in the past four seasons, and second in a row, Winona’s boys squad advances to its fourth consecutive state meet in a row on the campus of the University of Minnesota next weekend.

Bunke The Trojans did not let past results influence their first-round Section 1A playoff matchup, as the fifth-seeded R-P squad hit the road and handily defeated four-seed Wabasha-Kellogg 42-6 on Tuesday. Just six days prior, in the final game of the regular season, the Falcons defeated the Trojans 14-12. Bunke was a force to be reckoned with .
