BLOOMINGTON — Firefighters stopped a fire Wednesday afternoon at an east Bloomington home, city officials said. Bloomington Fire Department Public Information Officer Frank Friend said in a news release that crews were dispatched at 12:26 p.m.

to the 1200 block of East Jefferson Street for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from the back of a large two-story house, and due to the conditions, additional units were brought to the scene. Friend said crews stretched a hose line through the front door and located the fire in the kitchen, which is where it was confined and quickly extinguished with less than 100 gallons of water.

Everyone had exited the home before firefighters arrived, and no civilians or firefighters were injured, Friend said. Bloomington Fire Department crews were in the 1200 block of East Jefferson Street on Wednesday afternoon for a report of a house fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured.

The fire was caused by unattended cooking and displaced two adults and three children, Friend said. Smoke and water caused much of the damage, but no dollar-amount estimates were available Wednesday. Friend said the department wants to remind people not to place items (other than pots and pans) on stovetops.
