On Oct. 29, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward took to Instagram to share only his second post. The heartbreaking statement included a picture of his 23-month-old daughter Amani Joy.

According to Ward, Amani passed away the morning of Oct. 28. “We are heartbroken that our beautiful baby girl, Amani Joy passed away on Monday morning,” Ward wrote.

She taught us to have patience, trust, and a positive outlook on life.” Ward continued, saying Amani showed her family “true strength and bravery.

She overcame adversity at a young age and was always happy, lighting up every room with her smile.” “Having the privilege of being her parents and seeing the world through her eyes has changed us for the better,” he wrote. “She will forever be daddy’s best friend and mommy’s little girl.

We’ll miss you and love you forever, Amani Joy.” On his Instagram story, he wrote , “I’m broken.” The only other post on Ward’s Instagram page also celebrated Amani.
