Vadodara: Four persons were rescued from a van that overturned due to flood waters in Dahod late on Saturday night. On Sunday, the firemen were still searching for two other passengers who were missing. The van was passing from Matva village in Garbada taluka when it got stuck in the waters that gushed out of a nearby lake.

The van overturned while trying to negotiate a turn. Some locals spotted the incident and immediately informed the fire brigade. Apart from Dahod, Panchmahal district too received heavy rain on Sunday.

In Vadodara, the weather was overcast and heavy bouts of rain kept lashing the city throughout the day. Water levels in the Vishwamitri crossed 18 feet as water overflowing from Ajwa lake reached the river. Municipal commissioner Dilip Rana visited the Kala Ghoda bridge that passes over Vishwamitri river to take stock of the situation.

If the water level in the river keeps rising, then the authorities may evacuate those staying on the river banks to some safer locations. The city has been put on orange alert and heavy rain is expected on Monday. People also spotted many crocodiles moving to higher areas on the river bank in the city to escape the gushing waters on Sunday.
