Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday afternoon found Rs35 lakh in cash in an SUV during a nakabandi operation at Chapekar Chowk in Chinchwad. The occupants of the SUV are being questioned. The Election Commission and the Income Tax department were informed about the cash, police said.
Senior inspector Jitendra Koli of the Chinchwad police said on Thursday, the police team intercepted one SUV at the chowk, which was brought to the police station. "When we checked it, we found Rs35.11 lakh kept inside a case," he said.
This was the second seizure of cash in Pimpri Chinchwad within 24 hours. On Wednesday night, Rs36 lakh were seized from a vehicle in Chakan. Since the model code of conduct came into force, the Pimpri Chinchwad police seized Rs79.
