Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Saturday rescued from Jharkhand a Hinjewadi resident (52), abducted by his tenant for a ransom of Rs1 crore. A team from the crime branch, in coordination with the Jharkhand Police , raided an island amid the Ganga river in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand, where the suspects had confined the Hinjewadi man. "Seeing the police team, the suspects jumped into the river.

The police teams rescued the victim and nabbed two men. The victim's tenant fled. Our other team took the third suspect into custody from Kalyan in Thane district," deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sandip Doiphode said.

The arrested trio were identified as Nasim Akhtar (20) and Sajim Shaikh (20) from Malda district in West Bengal, and Lallu Shaikh (45) of Sahibganj district in Jharkhand. The victim's son, who runs a construction business, told TOI that his father gave tenements on rent in the Hinjewadi area to working-class people. "The suspect, who runs a coconut selling business and a food stall at Laxmi Chowk in Hinjewadi, was our tenant for the past two years," he said.

He said his father left home without informing anyone on Thursday. "On Friday morning, I received a call from my father's cellphone number. The person on the other end told me in Hindi that my father was abducted," the victim's son said.

He said her mother immediately recalled that the victim had told her that their tenant had offered him a trip to West Bengal by flight. "With the help of my uncle.
