Mumbai: Three men were arrested by MHB Colony Police for posing as policemen and extorting Rs 10 lakh from a Borivali-based real estate agent. The accused had "intercepted" the complainant outside his female friend's house and threatened to inform his wife as well as haul him to the police station. The accused have been identified as Ayub Khan, 43, Jitendra Patel, 56, and Sudarshan Khandare, 32.

The incident occurred on Aug 22. The complainant was leaving a female friend's home at LIC Colony when two of the accused "intercepted" him. They started to threaten him that they would take him into custody for illegal activities at the woman's house.

He was frightened. The accused demanded Rs 15 lakh to settle the matter, but the complainant said he did not have so much money. He then agreed to pay them Rs 10 lakh and requested a friend to organise the sum.

One of the accused accompanied him in a car to pick up the money. For some time thereafter, the complainant was in shock. He then confided in his friend who advised him to lodge a police complaint.

An FIR was registered on Aug 23. Within 24 hours, police made three arrests. MSID:: 112767720 413 |.
