Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau on Wednesday arrested three people — a retired block development and panchayats officer, posted as panchayat officer in Bhunga block; a panchayat secretary in Tanda block; and a private person, a resident of Mukerian in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district — in a funds embezzlement case. The vigilance arrested former BDPO Suresh Kumar, panchayat secretary Lucky Thakur and Dhiraj Kumar Gill. The accused had withdrawn govt grants amounting to over Rs 10 lakh wrongfully.

This case was registered at the VB police station of Amritsar range. 3 FIRs over fraud The Punjab VB has registered a case against panchayat secretary Santokh Singh, posted as Fazilka’s block development and panchayat office, former sarpanch Mahla Singh (now deceased) and Mukhtiar Singh, both residents of Saidey Ke Hithad village in Fazilka district, for usurping Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’s central grant amounting to Rs 1.2 lakh.
