Valley of Rocks, Devon The King Charles III England Coast Path is coming on apace – soon we’ll be able to walk around the whole country. One of the latest stretches to officially open is along the Exmoor coast , arguably one of the most show-stopping bits of seashore anywhere. Need proof? Try the 10km Valley of Rocks Woodland Walk, which explores the rugged periglacial vale known as Little Switzerland, via atmospheric trees and quartzitic formations laced with devilish legends.

But there’s some superb seashore here, encompassing both brilliant beaches and dramatic rocks. The 8km cliff-edge stroll from Bullers of Buchan to Boddam (linked by bus) showcases some of the region’s best bits: a bulwark of pink-red granite, sea stacks and arches, deep inlets, a massive gloup (collapsed sea cave). There’s wildlife aplenty too – look out for puffins in their burrows, seabirds swirling and seals basking on the boulders below.
