Pune: State govt has approved Rs212 crore for various landslide-prevention works in 58 villages of the district. An official government resolution (GR) in this regard was published on Monday. The funds would be allocated from the State Disaster Mitigation Funds (SDMF).
A senior official of the district administration said they had prepared a total of eight different proposals between December 2023 and August 2024 seeking funds from state govt to carry out works related to disaster management and prevention of landslides in 146 villages, including 44 of the 72 villages identified as landslide-prone by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). Official data of the proposals sent by the district administration reveal that they had sought a financial assistance of Rs393 crore. "For the first time this much funds have been approved by the state govt for disaster management and works related to the prevention of landslides," a senior official of the district administration said.
Four of the eight proposals were sent to the govt before the monsoon started this year. Most of the works proposed by the district administration have been approved this time. The approved works include construction of retaining walls and laying or repairing drainage lines.
According to the officials, the govt has approved Rs86 crore for works in 16 villages of Ambegaon Taluka. Rs55.86 crore has been approved for 18 villages of Maval and Rs53.
