The 2024 BMW X6 is part of an evolution. Luxury German coupe and convertible product lines imported to America in the 1960s and '70s evolved into sedans in the '80s and '90s, SUVs in the 2000s and now the German three (BMW, , ) all have some version of a coupe-like-shaped SUV in their lineups. Some, like , have more than one.
These sloping roofline vehicles bank on style over cargo space and headroom. They're generally higher priced than their more traditional SUV-like brethren, but they do get small dynamic benefits from how their weight is distributed. The BMW X6 M60i, the model tested, is one such jellybean-shaped vehicle.
It's powered by a 523-horsepower, turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that helps make it fast, but not as speedy as its more powerful (and more expensive) X6 M Competition brother, which offers up 617 horsepower. The third generation X6 premiered in 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2020 model.
Now halfway through it's generation, this model sports some upgrades. For 2024 BMW updated the X6 with new slim headlights and arrow-shaped daytime lights elements. The M Sport Package, standard on the M60i, features double bars and an M logo on grille, M exterior mirror caps in high-gloss black, and quad exhaust tips.
