Pune: A sales executive, working with a multinational company, and a 64-year-old housewife from Bavdhan collectively lost about Rs1 crore to online share trading frauds. According to the police , the fraud occurred between January and July this year. Separate cases in connection with the frauds have been registered with the Hinjewadi and Sangvi police on Saturday.

The 39-year-old man, a resident of Pimple Gurav, lost Rs95 lakh in the online share trading fraud , while the woman lost Rs7.2 lakh to the conmen. The modus operandi in both the cases was almost similar, police said.

The complainants were added to a social media group and promised great returns on their investments. Trusting the claims, the complainants went ahead and transferred money in different bank accounts. However, they realised about the fraud when they were unable to withdraw money.
