Vadodara: Food safety officials of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) raided a private dairy in the Gotri area of the city on Friday night and seized 129kg of ghee that is suspected to be spurious . The action was based on a tip-off from a Gotri police officer. The officer had received intelligence about the trade of ghee of dubious quality at Bansidhar Dairy Farm in Gokul Township on Gotri Road.

The officer had also learned that a large stock of it was stored at the dairy. A team of food safety officers went to the dairy late on Friday night. They found that a large quantity of the substance was stored in large aluminium cans.

Prima facie, it was apparent that the substance was not ghee. Samples were taken and sent to the public health laboratory of the civic body. A VMC official said the material may contain hydrogenated vegetable oil or similar ingredients.

It was being sold loose in small quantities from the shop. “Such incidents have emerged in the past as well and we have taken action,” the official said.
