Pune: A 19-year-old who is 22 weeks into her pregnancy tested positive for Zika virus late on Saturday night. The positive test result took the count of confirmed cases in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits to 66 and in the district to 73. The 19-year-old, a resident of Bavdhan, is the 26th pregnant woman to have confirmed Zika infection in Pune city.

She did not report any symptoms. Her anomaly scan report also indicated that the growth of the foetus was normal. As many as 64,000 homes have been inspected since the first Zika virus case was reported in Erandwane.

Of those, 1,668 homes had reported larvae and eggs of mosquitoes. A total of Rs2.6 lakh has been collected as a penalty from violators found harbouring mosquitoes.

A team from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) team is collecting samples of live mosquitoes and larvae from spots where Zika-confirmed cases are being reported.
