Prayagraj: In a remarkable achievement, 19 teachers of the Allahabad University (AU) have made it to the top 2% of the scientists of the world. Every year, Stanford University , USA issues a list of the top two percent of the scientists doing excellent research in various subjects. In the list prepared by a team of scientists led by prof John Ioannidis of Stanford University, the researchers are ranked on the basis of the number of research publications , quality, and citations.

Out of the 19 AU teachers featuring the list, four each are from Physics and Biochemistry departments and 11 are from other departments. Prof Ashil Kumar, associate professors Thakur Prasad Yadav and Niti Kant, Rajneesh Verma from physics department, present head of the department of Biochemistry prof SI Rizvi, prof Bechan Sharma, Abhay Kumar Pandey, Munish Kumar, Ashutosh Gupta, and Mohan Prasad Singh of Biotechnology, Vishal Srivastava and MC Chattopadhyay of Chemistry department, Sudhir Kumar Singh of the Centre for Atmospheric and Ocean Studies, prof Shiv Mohan Prasad, Devendra Kumar Chauhan, Ashwini Kumar of the department of Botany, Manoj Kumar of the Centre for Materials Science and Umesh Kumar Singh, and Avinash Pandey of the Centre for Environmental Sciences are among the top scientists. The list also features Praveen Pratap Singh of United College of Engineering and Research (UCER), Naini.
