Pune: A special court on Tuesday sent the private van driver, arrested on the charge of sexually assaulting two six-year-old Std I school students on Sept 30, to judicial custody remand for 14 days. The driver, aged 45, was later sent to Yerawada Central Jail . Senior inspector (Wanowrie police) Sanjay Patange said, "We recorded the confessional statements of the two girls before a magisterial court.
We spoke to 10 other girls travelling in the same private van and their parents. However, they did not make complaints against the driver." He said, "We also questioned the school authorities.
Prima facie, their involvement in the crime was not revealed. We seized the school van that was vandalised by five men, of whom four were arrested." DCP (Zone IV) R Raja said the van driver did not have criminal antecedents.
The owner of the private van told police that he had hired the driver two years ago for ferrying students in the vehicle..
