The Gold Coast was hit with a large downpour overnight on Thursday which has caused flash flooding, closing multiple roads across the city. Meteorologist Angus Hines said the Gold Coast had received a significant amount of rain overnight, accumulating 148mm in Tugun and 144mm in Coolangatta. Palm Beach recorded 133mm of rain while other parts of the Gold Coast recorded 70mm of rain up to 5am.
Mr Hines said that while the rain was easing, the downpour would continue throughout Friday. He said the city could expect up to another 50mm on Friday. Multiple Gold Coast residents said the M1 between Varsity Lakes and Tugun was “terrible” at around 3.
