More than a dozen Christmas trees adorn the rooms of Dumfries House, decorated with garlands and wreaths and around 1,000 glittering baubles. Staff at the 18th century property, near Cumnock, Ayrshire, are anticipating a busy winter season.
Around 1,500 guests set to experience candlelit tours, gourmet dining, and traditional festive feasts and banquets organised by The King’s Foundation. Revenue from the special events will be given to the education and training programmes run by the foundation whose headquarters are at the mansion, which the king rescued for the nation from a state of dilapidation 17 years ago. One highlight of the festive dining experience will see guests tuck into an authentic 18th-century feast in the mansion’s Pink Dining Room, the same room where the monarch takes most of his meals when staying at the house.
Diners will eat at the King’s table - but not in the presence of the monarch - beneath a 35kg Murano glass floral chandelier, which was painstakingly reassemble.
