Pune: A man was arrested on Thursday night on the charge of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old girl from a village in Khed taluka on Wednesday evening after outraging her modesty. The girl’s mother lodged a police complaint on Thursday. Acting swiftly, a team of Mhalunge MIDC police, led by assistant inspector Kailas Kuthe, traced the motorcycle with the help of CCTV footage and arrested the 35-year-old man.

“The suspect works as a sales executive with a private company. He was taken into custody from Kalewadi on Thursday night,” Kuthe said. According to the complainant, Kuthe said, her daughter was walking home after dropping her friend off on Wednesday evening.

“The woman told us that the suspect stopped the girl at an open space near a house. He touched her improperly and then tried to force her to sit on his motorcycle,” he said. He said the brave girl raised an alarm and pushed the man, compelling him to drive away from there.

“A CCTV camera at the spot had captured the entire incident. It had also captured the registration number of the suspect’s motorcycle, which led us to him,” Kuthe said. He said the man was arrested under sections 137 (2) [assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty], 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), and 62 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections .
