Article content The Grind, a support organization for Pembroke’s homeless and vulnerable populations, has received an extraordinary $100,000 donation, ensuring it can continue and expand its essential services. The donation, made by Dr. Donald Brown in memory of his late wife, Beverley Brown, was commemorated with an unveiling ceremony and the installation of a plaque, the first on The Grind’s new memorial wall.
The donation will allow The Grind to not only to maintain its breakfast program, providing daily meals to those in need, but also to strengthen its community outreach initiatives. This year alone, The Grind has served over 2,000 breakfasts and distributed 455 emergency food boxes in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Food Bank.
Deacon Adrien Chaput, chairman of The Grind’s board of directors, opened the ceremony, emphasizing the impact the organization has had on reducing food insecurity and supporting the community. He highlighted that The Grind has welcomed 1,975 visits to date this year and made 507 referrals to mental health services before focusing on the $100,000 donation made by Dr. Brown in memory of his wife.
“It is a great privilege and an honor to have Beverley’s plaque placed here on our Memorial Wall so that all will come to know the life of Beverley Brown and how she’s touched the lives of so many in our community. Your presence here is witness of that today,” Chaput said. Dr.
