While Robert Downey Jr is gearing up for his return to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom, an old tape of his audition for the role of Iron Man is making rounds on the internet. RDJ became synonymous with the role of Iron Man aka Tony Stark after playing him for a decade, but now he is set to change the game by playing a villain in the same film franchise universe. All the shots also made it into the final cut of the film but the tape shows how quickly RDJ could transition between Tony Stark's playboy charm and the more serious scenes.
While one scene shows him interacting with a journalist at a Stark launch party (also seen early on in the film), another shows his emotional exchange with supporting character James Rhodes aka War Machine. But director Jon Favreau, reportedly fought with the studio to get RDJ on the role and rightfully so. Since debut, he has been part of the franchise for nine films till Avengers: Endgame.
He will now make a return to the MCU's as Doctor Doom who comes from the comic world of Fantastic Four. He reportedly will be introduced in Pedro Pascal's film set in the 60s Fantastic Four: First Steps , and will move on to his solo film Avengers: Doctor Doom . The latter was set to be Avenger: Kang Dynasty but was recently changed to a different storyline.
The film will be directed by Russo Brothers followed by Avengers: Secret Wars , which will reportedly also star RDJ as Doctor Doom.
