Saturday, September 7, 2024 American Airlines has announced a new seasonal direct flight from Athens International Airport (AIA) to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), starting June 6, 2025. This new route will mark the airline’s fourth daily flight connecting the United States and Greece, further expanding its transatlantic services during the summer travel season. Charlotte, North Carolina, serves as American Airlines’ second-largest hub, providing connections to over 130 destinations across North America.

The addition of this route will complement the airline’s current seasonal services to Athens from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The new daily flights will be operated using a Boeing 777-200, one of the airline’s most advanced aircraft, offering a comfortable experience for long-haul passengers.

According to the tentative schedule, flights will depart from Athens at 12:00 noon, arriving in Charlotte at 16:30. The return flight from Charlotte will depart at 19:00 and arrive in Athens at 12:20 the following day, allowing passengers seamless connections to North American cities. José Freig, Vice President of International Operations at American Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of this new route, emphasizing Greece’s growing popularity among North American travelers.

“With Greece remaining one of the most sought-after destinations from North America, we are excited to enhance our connectivity,” Freig said. “This new route will offer more direct flights between Greece and the U.S.

than any other airline, providing greater convenience for our Greek and American customers.” American Airlines has been steadily expanding its European services in recent years. Alongside the new Athens-Charlotte route, the airline will introduce additional flights to popular European destinations in 2025, including new routes to Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP), and Rome (FCO).

Furthermore, American Airlines plans to resume its seasonal services to Copenhagen (CPH), Naples (NAP), and Nice (NCE), continuing its efforts to meet the growing demand for transatlantic travel. For travelers looking to book flights on this new route, the airline recommends checking official updates through the American Airlines website, where the most accurate flight schedules and booking options can be found. The airline’s expanding route network reflects its commitment to offering passengers more travel options and convenience when flying between North America and Europe.

With this latest addition, American Airlines further strengthens its position as one of the leading carriers connecting Greece and the U.S., offering unmatched access to one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.
