Thursday, July 18, 2024 The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with the World Boxing Council (WBC) MuayThai, EVA Air, and See My Thailand travel agency, is excited to announce the “Amazing Thailand Muay Thai Summer Camp 2024.” This thrilling event is scheduled to take place from July 16 to July 28, 2024. Highlighting the camp’s prestige, WBC Honorary Champion Bridger Walker will also participate in the program, adding an extra layer of excitement and expertise for all attendees.

This summer camp promises to be an unforgettable experience, blending the rich cultural heritage of Thailand with the dynamic and disciplined world of Muay Thai. Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Americas, Middle East, and Africa, said “The project reiterates the global popularity of Muay Thai martial art as an exhilarating sport and method of self-defence.

Last year, the Royal Thai Government declared Muay Thai a leading “soft power” of Thailand’s brand, with significant value and international recognition.” The inaugural Amazing Thailand Muay Thai Summer Camp 2024 is set to welcome an exclusive group of 50 participants from the USA to Thailand. This group consists of American children aged 6 to 17, accompanied by their parents or adult guardians, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere.

One of the notable participants is Bridger Walker, celebrated for his heroic act in 2020 when he protected his younger sister from a dog attack, earning him the WBC’s ‘Honorary Champion’ belt. Walker, who is passionate about boxing, has inspired the creation of a new weight class named “Bridgerweight” by the WBC, catering to boxers weighing between 200 and 224 pounds (91-102 kg). His presence at the camp adds a unique and motivational element for all attendees.

Colonel Thanapol Bhakdibhumi, WBC MuayThai President, said “Walker, together with participants of this first Amazing Thailand Muay Thai Summer Camp, will surely gain a deeper understanding of Muay Thai sport. The tailor-made programme offers them an opportunity to train in its country of origin, watch live fights, participate in the sacred Wai Kru ceremony, and enjoy travel activities in Thailand.” The Amazing Thailand Muay Thai Summer Camp 2024 offers an enriching educational experience, featuring Muay Thai training sessions at two premier locations: Superbon Training Center in Bangkok and Fairtex Training Center in Pattaya.

Participants will also engage in a special tournament held in Pattaya and partake in the traditional ‘Wai Kru’ dance ritual and certificate ceremony in the historic city of Ayutthaya. Beyond the training, attendees will have the opportunity to watch live Muay Thai matches at the iconic Ratchadamnoen Stadium and Lumpinee Stadium. The program also includes sightseeing tours to some of Thailand’s most famous landmarks, providing a well-rounded cultural immersion.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to expand the program to attract participants from Latin America, including countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. Marketing efforts for the next summer camp will commence in January, giving parents and guardians ample time to plan this unique and exciting experience for their children. Mr.

Siripakorn said “The Amazing Thailand Muay Thai Summer Camp will be prominently featured in our partner travel agencies’ annual packages. The programme will focus on the opportunity to experience Thai martial art and culture as well as explore an amazing variety of Thai tourism offerings.”.
