Friday, August 2, 2024 Alstom, a global leader in sustainable and intelligent mobility, has successfully initiated the deployment of the first two trains on Singapore’s Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) line. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore officially received the system on July 16, 2024, signaling the commencement of the phased delivery of this comprehensive turnkey solution. Awarded the contract in 2018, Alstom undertook the modernization and renewal of the BPLRT system, which included a significant upgrade to its signalling technology.
The current Alstom Cityflo 550 fixed block rail control system is being replaced with the cutting-edge Cityflo 650 Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system. This milestone underscores our commitment to enhancing urban mobility in Singapore, providing residents with a seamless and sustainable travel experience.” As part of this extensive agreement, Alstom is supplying 19 Innovia APM 300R vehicles and retrofitting 13 existing Innovia APM cars. The first batch of Innovia 300R trains arrived in Singapore in April 2022 and have since undergone rigorous testing and commissioning under the supervision of the transport authority.

Additionally, these trains feature a state-of-the-art condition monitoring system to detect and prevent potential faults, enhancing passenger comfort and safety. Emphasizing an eco-design approach and incorporating advanced technologies, the Innovia APM 300R trains include smart climate control, centralized train management, regenerative braking, and energy-efficient systems.
Furthermore, they feature innovative privacy solutions like automatically dimming windows, which are particularly suited to the line’s proximity to residential areas. Alstom has been a pioneer in Singapore’s rail sector for over two decades, providing sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. Today, six out of seven of Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rapid Transit (LRT) lines utilize Alstom’s cutting-edge technologies.
Notable projects include the North East Line, the world’s first fully automated underground driverless heavy-capacity metro system, and the Circle Line, Singapore’s first medium-capacity MRT line, both of which were fully designed and built by Alstom. The company is also involved in replacing Singapore’s largest train fleet for the North-South and East-West Lines and delivering three CBTC signalling simulation facilities. Moreover, Alstom supplies the latest Metropolis rolling stock and CBTC signalling systems for the new extensions of the Circle and North East Lines, as well as the Thomson-East Coast Line, powered by the Urbalis 400 CBTC signalling system.
