1 2 Prayagraj: Ahead of the Maha Kumbh, the authorities of the UP Jal Nigam are making sincere efforts to almost double the capacity of the Alopibag pumping station from 45 MLD to 80 MLD to address sewer issues across neighbourhoods. In addition to the pumping station upgrade, multiple temporary Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are also being constructed with the help of the jal nigam. Executive engineer Saurabh Kumar said the station's treatment capacity is being nearly doubled, increasing from 45 million litres per day (MLD) to 80 MLD.

The project is set to be completed by Nov 30. Once finished, it will address sewer drainage issues in the Alopibagh, Daraganj, Sohbatiyabagh, Allapur, Kidwai Nagar, and Mori Nala areas of the city. He also said the expansion project, costing approximately Rs 18 crore, is nearing completion.

The new pump at the Alopibagh pumping station is now operational, and the old pump will soon be functional as well. Once fully operational, the entire sewer waste from the area will be pumped to the Rajapur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) from where treated water will be discharged into the river. This upgrade will help handle the increased demand from both locals and the influx of devotees during Maha Kumbh.
