Wednesday, January 8, 2025 The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has introduced updated regulations on carry-on baggage, restricting passengers to one piece of hand luggage each. Effective from May 2, travelers will be allowed to carry only a single cabin bag or handbag. Leading Indian airlines, including Air India and Indigo, have already adjusted their policies in line with these new guidelines.
The revised rules aim to simplify security screening processes and better manage passenger flow. Additionally, the changes are expected to save time for both travelers and airport staff. With a surge in air travel and increasingly crowded terminals, BCAS, in collaboration with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has implemented these stricter measures to ensure smoother movement through airports.
Here are the updated hand baggage regulations: Single Handbag Per Passenger Under the new guidelines, each passenger is allowed only one handbag or cabin bag. For economy class, the maximum weight limit is 7 kilograms, while business and first-class passengers can carry up to 10 kilograms. Any additional luggage must be checked in.
Cabin Bag Dimensions To streamline security checks, the size of cabin baggage is now restricted to 55 cm in height, 40 cm in length, and 20 cm in width. Extra Charges for Overweight Baggage Passengers exceeding the specified weight limits for cabin baggage will incur additional charges for the excess weight. Pre-Booked Ticket Exemptions Tickets p.
