Sabrina Carpenter has not only given us two of the biggest hits of 2024 – “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”, lest you’ve been under a rock – but she’s also ushered in a return to old-school bombshell glamour, both onstage and on the red carpet. Take the dazzling silver Bob Mackie dress that she and stylist Jared Ellner chose for the VMAs , which was inspired by Marilyn Monroe and first worn by Madonna at the Oscars back in 1991. In fact, Carpenter has a number of trophy vintage pieces in her wardrobe.

See also the white lace minidress from Gucci’s spring/summer 1996 collection, originally worn down the runway by Kate Moss, which she wore to the VMA after-parties. It’s clear that she loves a fashion reference: for her 25th birthday, the singer wore a yellow slip dress sourced from Depop, which paid homage to Kate Hudson in How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Meanwhile, Carpenter’s also been spotted in rare John Galliano , as well as sporting Noughties Roberto Cavalli while onstage.

As her star power continues to rise, we can’t wait to see what other archival pieces she unearths next. In the meantime, take a closer look at her best vintage looks to date..
