Series five of the popular Channel 5 show All Creatures Great and Small is set in spring of 1941 and viewers will return to Darrowby to find young baby Jimmy keeping their favourite Skeldale House family on their toes. In the new serie s , Helen (Rachel Shenton) is finding her feet as a new mother with James (Nicholas Ralph) away at RAF Abingdon and Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) and Siegfried (Samuel West) are enjoying having a little one around. Carmody is now part of the furniture and with the Second World War underway, Siegfried is taking up the slack at the surgery. In the first episode, Mrs Hall and Helen attend a community meeting about the local war effort, while Siegfried is under pressure to keep the surgery going with the absence of James and Tristan. James and his RAF crew prepare for an important training flight and James reassures his crew-mate but as they are about to take off on their flight, James is unexpectedly grounded.



He receives some surprising and disappointing news as he is examined by the medical officer and a concerned Helen is confused by James’s refusal to come home as he doesn’t want to let his team down. Carmody’s new surgery triage system gets him into trouble with Siegfried and Mrs Hall signs up to help the community.
