The cars, parked on public streets across Sydney 's inner west and eastern suburbs, had their iconic badges sprayed with red or blue paint this month. Alex Mucibabic, 49, was arrested in relation to the alleged spree after police executed a search warrant on Friday about 3pm at a unit on Pyrmont Bridge Road in Camperdown.

Police officers from Kings Cross, Surry Hills, Eastern Suburbs and Leichhardt received 87 reports of luxury cars that were sprayed with paint. Officers from Central Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Opelika to investigate the incidents. Police made a public appeal for assistance to catch the man responsible and released CCTV footage of a suspect.



Images of the luxury vehicles, including Porsches, BMWs, and Mercedes Benzes were shared amongst Sydneysiders as the number of sprayed vehicles grew between August 19 and 28. Both new and older models of luxury cars were targeted on public streets. More than 80 luxury cars were reported sprayed between August 19 and 28 in Sydney's inner east Police released CCTV footage of a man they suspected to be responsible for the graffiti spree Mucibabic was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with 23 counts of destroy or damage property.

Parramatta Bail Court heard Mucibabic is expected to face further charges in relation to other cars allegedly involved, according to the Daily Telegraph. It was also heard that Mucibabic had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, has very little memory of the alleged incidents, and often hears voices telling him to go walking at night. He was granted strict bail with conditions that include he is not 'in possession of any paint cans’, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Luxury cars including Mercedes Benzes and BMWs were sprayed with blue and red paints His bail requires he reports to Glebe police twice a week, attend a local mental health facility and avoid the areas of the city where cars had been sprayed. He must also obey a curfew preventing him from wandering outside between 9pm and 7am. Mucibabic will next front the Sydney Downing Centre on Saturday, September 6.
